Murray Sensei began his aikido training under Steve Nickerson Sensei in 1995 upon his posting to CFB Borden. Under the tutelage of Nickerson Sensei (4th Dan) and with the full support and patience of Fred Haynes Sensei (7th Dan) Jim Stewart Sensei (7th Dan) he achieved his first degree and level 6 teaching certificate 1998.
In 1997, upon his posting to CFB Halifax, Nickerson Sensei appointed Murray Sensei Chief Instructor of the Buseikan a position he has held since his appointment.
Murray Sensei has attended numerous training seminars conducted by some of the senior instructors in Yoshinkan Aikido including several taught by Yasuhisa Shioda Soke, Tsuneo Ando Shihan, Fred Haynes Sensei, Alister Thompson Sensei, Jim Stewart Sensei, Robert Mustard Sensei just to name a few. He has conducted seminars throughout Ontario and in Brazil.
Murray Sensei achieve the rank of 4th Degree black belt and level 3 instructor certificationat a test in September 2007 upon the recommendations of Fred Haynes and Jim Stewart Sensei s and approval of the Home Dojo of Yoshinkan Aikido in Tokyo Japan.
Murray Sensei is a member of the Canadian Forces with 37 years of service completed. As in the Canadian Forces, Aikido teaches that we must take every opportunity to continue to grow and learn. A day is not complete unless you have laughed and learned.
